Fitting the Needs of the Students

West Bank

For the Students

After 1975, there wasn't a major focus on acquiring more land or constructing more buildings. However, the focus shifted on how to make the campus map more accessible, convenient and improve the overall campus for the people. The most recent plan happened in 1976 with the Long Range Development plane. Its main goal was to create an internal weather-protected pedestrian movement separated from vehicular traffic, due to the campus being heavily commuter orientated; it included:

  • Buildings connected by tunnels and skyways.
  • Change movement from being primarily outdoors to become more indoors.

Another thing that the University has done to help fit the needs of the students, was by providing the use of state-of-the-art athletic facilities. There are also many things for many students to spend some leisure time off campus in one of the several surrounding neighborhoods such as Dinkytown, Stadium Village and the Seven Corners of the West Bank.
