State-of-the-art nursing facility for learning clinical skills

Modern Day Milestones for the School of Nursing

*1980 - Doctoral Degree in Nursing proposal was submitted to the University of Minnesota's Graduate School Board

*1981 - The School of Nursing moved from Powell Hall into its brand new building, Weaver-Densford Hall, named partly after Katharine J. Densford

*1982 - Doctoral Degree in Nursing approved so now students can apply for and earn their DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice)

*1987 - The first students graduated with a Ph. D. in Nursing

*1997 - The School of Nursing received grant money for distance education in areas such as Rochester, Duluth, and Saint Cloud

*This allowed for nursing students on different Minnesota campus to video-chat each other

during classes, so teachers could be shared and students didn't have to move far from

home to pursue their nursing degree (this is still done today between students on the

Minneapolis campus and the Rochester campus)

*2002 - Bachelors of Science in Nursing program was established on the Rochester campus

*2013 - The University of Minnesota's School of Nursing was ranked 15th in the nation for nursing schools by the National Institutes of Health1
