Dorm dancing & coed living

Student mixers

The Dorms organize mixer events in the lobbies, host dances and organized parties to socialize between female and male students for the dorms, often separated. Bailey was separated by wings (why the male east wing has worse rooms). Sanford had the male Sanford hall and the female Sanford council. This physical separation lead to student organized events to bring the students together to socialize and interact with each other. Comstock, pioneer, Sanford, and Sanford held coed social events in the dorm like Christmas parties and seasonal balls.

Hotels and Coffman ballroom still useful

Big dances were still hosted in Coffman or organized and held at hotels. Groups would have their own balls, like the interfraternity ball, formals, and student organization balls like the Jewish student’s ball. Coffman was still used for schoolwide events.

Coeducation as part of the social life in Minnesota was only strengthened.

As the years got closer to the 8os some of the school events stopped or lost the complexity. The Homecoming dances and royalty were lost, and balls started to lose prominence.
